Kyiv's Defence Vision Day: Pioneering Military Innovations in VR and AR Technologies

During the Defence Vision Day in Kyiv, a significant event took place, focusing on innovative military technologies based on Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). This event, organized by the Ukrainian defense sector, aimed to gather top minds and tech teams to showcase their latest projects designed to support the Ukrainian military in its defense efforts.

One of the main topics of the conference was the potential of VR and AR in military training. In situations where traditional training methods can be costly, risky, or even impossible to implement, virtual simulations have become a crucial element in preparing soldiers for real-life operations. Tech teams presented various solutions that allow for realistic battle simulations, weapons training, and drone operation management in digital environments.

Out of 55 submitted projects, 24 were selected for detailed presentation before a jury of defense industry experts and government representatives. These projects covered a wide range of technologies, from anti-aircraft defense simulators to drone management systems, which could be decisive on the modern battlefield. Using AR, drone operators can now analyze real-time data, increasing mission effectiveness and reducing the risk of errors.

One of the key moments of the program was the awarding of grants to the most promising projects. Three teams received grants from the event's main partner, Uklon, which was not only a recognition of their work but also financial support for the further development of their technologies. These projects stood out for their innovation and potential to provide real support to the Ukrainian army in its current and future operations.

During Defence Vision Day, not only new technologies gained importance. The event was also an opportunity to establish dialogue between the government, the private sector, and the academic community. All participants agreed that the future of defense lies in synergy between these three areas. Technological innovations cannot be developed in isolation from reality, which is why it is so important for theoretical knowledge to meet practice, and for scientific potential to be effectively implemented.

In the context of the ongoing armed conflict in Ukraine, Defence Vision Day had special significance. It showed how dynamically the Ukrainian defense industry is developing, how quickly it adapts to new challenges, and how effectively it can use available technological resources. Among the presented projects were also those focusing on aspects of demining areas and protecting civilians in conflict zones. AR technologies enable rapid and precise identification of dangerous objects, which can save many lives.

The teams participating in the event ranged from young startups to experienced companies with long-standing expertise in the defense industry. Many of these teams operate within accelerators such as Defense Builder, which supports the development of innovative technologies through mentoring, funding, and access to a broad network of contacts.

In summary, Defence Vision Day in Kyiv demonstrated the critical role modern technologies play in today's military operations. The event was not only an opportunity to showcase the latest achievements but also a platform for collaboration and experience exchange between different sectors. The innovative projects presented during the conference will undoubtedly contribute to strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities and, in the long term, may become the foundation of a modern military force of the future.
